MEET FIONA MOUNTFORTDirector of Mountfort Consulting Ltd
With over 20 years’ civil construction industry experience, Fiona has managed environmental and safety management and performance on structures, roading, and infrastructure schemes across most contract types. Working alongside Regional Councils, including from within as a Compliance Officer, has given Fiona a good understanding of their systems and how they work.

The ability to work with Contractors who want to change and improve their environmental performance. Fiona has a proven system and track record in successfully changing company culture in the environmental space. In these instances, the companies have been able to improve their business reputation which has lead to winning more work.
Fiona works closely with management to improve performance as she believes they have to own the environmental aspects of their company or project. She generally behaves as an advisor; however, where specialist documentation is required, such as, management plans, she will assist in the development.
Fiona has a particular strength in relationship management. Her experience and successes prove it is paramount Clients, Councils and Contractors work collaboratively and with transparency to ensure compliance and good environmental outcomes.
Fiona has an on the ground focus. She believes systems are only there to support “actions” and provide evidence of implementation and compliance. Therefore, when improving performance Fiona’s focus is out on site with those doing the work. She believes it is about giving people the right knowledge to do things right 1st time and make informed risk assessments/decisions.
Another fundamental aspect of good performance and minimising effects on the environment is ensuring all environmental aspects are integrated into the company or project. In the case of projects, sequencing and construction methodologies can significantly reduce the environmental impacts or requirements for expensive controls. Therefore, planning and integrating both construction and environmental requirements is critical.
Due to Fiona starting her career as a Regional Council Compliance Officer, Fiona has a good understanding of RMA processes and Compliance thresholds. I.e. she can advice when enforcement is possible or likely. She also has a good feel for communicating with Councils. I.e. how to do this well.
